    New York State Bethune Height Recognition Program

    The New York State Bethune Height Recognition Program (BHRP) was held at Leonard’s Palazzo in Great Neck,  Long Island on Saturday May 20th, 2023, by the New York State Sections of NCNW (National Council of Negro Women). As one of the BHRP honorees for 2023, Letitia “Tish” James was recognized at the event themed “Looking Back, Moving Forward, Our Legacy: Empowering Future Generations”
     Keynote speakers, award presentations, and a luncheon were part of the program.
    Dr. A. Lois Keith, National Chair, NCNW, Rev. Shavon Arline-Bradley, President & CEO of NCNW, Johnnie M. Walker & Dawna M. Fields (National BHRP Co-Chairs), along with Carol Moore (NYS BHRP Chair), presented James with the BHRP award. BHRP Chair for New York State, Carol Moore. In the words of Moore, “Letitia James is a trailblazer who is breaking down barriers for women and girls. She is an inspiration for us all.” .
    As Master of Ceremonies, Rev. Dr. Malcolm J. Byrd presided over the event. Additional honorees were Master Sculptor, Nilda Maria Comas, Affiliate Honoree was the New York State Continental Societies and the Corporate Honoree was Colgate (Bright Smiles Bright Futures).
    In addition to honoring and supporting community members, the BHRP supports NCNW. African American women and girls are served by the NCNW, which is a non-profit organization.
    A hallmark event of the NCNW is the BHRP. Various states host the event each year.
    The BHRP was an enormous success. Among the many sections of NCNW, Inc. within New York State, the event was an excellent opportunity to recognize the achievements of African American women. As well as being a great opportunity to learn more about NCNW, it was also a great way to network with them. Music was provided by D.J; The Legendary Chris Washington.
    The NCNW, Inc. looks forward to hosting the BHRP in the years to come. African American women’s accomplishments and the NCNW’s work can be celebrated through the Bethune Height Recognition Program (BHRP) .
